Potential

It is Saturday. My day of rest for spiritual reasons along with necessity. Therefore, enjoyment and rest are my only two major goals for the day. Since I enjoy learning and sharing what I discover. Then, today, we will discuss potential in general, and why understanding our own potential through our own abilities will help us to reach our maximum potential in really every facet of life.

After all, some humans do not realize that it is their own potential that drives them to reach any goal in life. From broad goals to minimal more achievable goals. Humans use their potential subconsciously as well through a combination of webbed like communication systems and cellular functions that transmit signals in the same way our cellular devices do. We also have, what I have come to know as; free will, meaning we have choice on what actions we take in life unlike a cell that functions more like a machine in the physical and objective sense.

It is what I call the formula of life. I can say this with confidence, but people can research further for themselves. However, in my head this could be where Newton’s law came from. “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.”

Well, this happens to be true for the action potential function of the human body, so it seems relevant for everything in life. Especially when you throw in free will. Without this force known as the potential a human could not subconsciously breath while sleeping, or blink without thinking about blinking. I categorize it as a force for this reason. Furthermore, the action potential of the cell also functions through the choices we make. Like if we choose to jump or scream. I believe if more people could understand this on a simple level, it might be easier to use this force, when possible, at its highest potential. The action potential is the highest potential of the human body especially if free will is involved.

I say this because of knowledge through my healthcare career. My love for art (specifically the human body) and respect for God are the main reasons I can put all of this material together for us in the first place. Let us get back to the term potential and how it relates to the human body.

First, on a cellular level, the human body does not function period without the term potential. In fact, the potential of a cell can be a resting potential or an action potential. These functions of the body occur for specific cell types called neurons. Neurons are communication cells that send signals to your brain and back to other parts of the body as needed. Bear with me here, because some understanding about the physiology of the human body is needed to discover how humans use their potential for everything in life. That is the whole point for the idea behind this blog in the first place. It inspired me when I realized how magical the human body was. In awe really because we humans must use our full potential for everything, in life period. Even at a cellular and subconscious level.

Now, we can get back to the word potential in a general sense because; it is obvious that to reach a full potential a person requires action. However, for any potential to have any physical, spiritual, or emotional impact on humans the potential is there even at a state of rest. Below I have laid out the definitions for the word potential.

Definition

Potential-noun-definition

  1. something that can develop or become actual
  2. any of various functions from which the intensity or the velocity at any point in a field may be readily calculated or, the work required to move a unit positive charge from a reference point (as at infinity) to a point in question

The definitions above are according to Merriam-Webster, and it is relevant to note that an adjective can define it as well. For this part of the blog post we will focus more on the noun aspect of the word. As a noun it only exists for the words purpose and that is to achieve action or remain in a resting state. If the ultimate end goal of this journey is to make sure we are at our fullest potential, then we really need to visualize our purpose in life the same way we could visualize a cell performing an action potential.

Even a resting potential has a reason for being in that state. We know its purpose is to rest. We know that cells rest to maintain a homeostatic cellular state. In the same way, we understand that rest is necessary to maintain homeostasis or balance in everyday life. Therefore, the term potential is a good place to start when understanding one’s own self and entering an actualized state.

Now I also understand the role potential plays when physical human life along with our cellular functions is at a resting state. Something to think about. Part of the problem from personal experience is realizing that I have the potential and then dedicating myself into the use of the potential, whether I realize it or not.

The image below is to give you an example of how complex the action potential really is. The information above is to help us understand it on a simpler level. The complexity represents all experiences of life at the conscious, physical, subconscious, spiritual, and emotional levels. The simplicity of it all really boils down to the choices we make.
